Happy NAIDOC Week!

4 July 2022

NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The 2022 National NAIDOC Week theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!

Indigenous Australia has a powerful history of getting up, standing up, and showing up. This year’s NAIDOC theme sees this momentum continue by rallying ALL Australians, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, our youth and our Elders, to create impact by Getting Up! Standing Up! Showing Up!

The Murawin team believes that for systemic and intergenerational change to occur, we require people from all walks of life, communities, industries, and cultures, to call out injustice, inequity, and disadvantage.

Now more than ever it’s important that we draw on the knowledge of our First Nations people that has sustained this country for over 60,000 years.

We understand the need to work together and to take bold steps that will contribute to improved futures for Indigenous Australians and other marginalised groups. Murawin’s CEO, Carol Vale, believes that working with Country, collaboratively with Indigenous Australians, and implementing Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) across all workplaces, are key elements to creating sustainable and meaningful change.

“Murawin offers a Reconciliation Action Plan Service that enables our clients to take meaningful actions within their organisation,” Ms Vale shared.

“We collaborate closely with our clients to design a customised RAP that can improve relationships, build respect and create opportunities for Indigenous Australians,” Ms Vale said.

“In NAIDOC Week 2022, I want to see EVERYONE get up, stand up and show up! Check on your workplace’s reconciliation activities and if you don’t have a RAP in place, do something about it.”

NAIDOC Week runs from Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July 2022.

It’s promising to see that more commonly, NAIDOC is being celebrated not just in Indigenous communities but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils, and workplaces.

Murawin’s NAIDOC Week festivities

Through this year’s theme, Murawin chose to celebrate the many who have driven and led change in our communities over generations. We acknowledged the need to amplify First Nations voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent, and outcome. We did this by coming together as a team and celebrating a virtual NAIDOC lunch.

The Murawin team are a fierce and resourceful group and were determined not to allow the geographic distance between us, stop us from celebrating NAIDOC together.

All team members ‘GOT UP’ during our virtual lunch and using their NAIDOC Kits supplied by Murawin, we each painted what NAIDOC Week means to us on a set of clapsticks.

Turns out we have some highly talented artists within our ranks. Check out some of the creativity that flowed from our team activities!

This week we will be celebrating with a range of our clients and friends in a variety of activities including attending the KARI Corporate NAIDOC Luncheon, Sydney’s NAIDOC in the Park, and the Sydney NAIDOC Ball. We will be sharing our insights with our colleagues and clients in Connecting with Country and growing organisational cultural competencies. We look forward to the many yarns that will take place throughout the week.
